General Party Information
As a small, locally-based institution, we only accept weekend reservations for parties of eight or more people. Exceptions are made during the week for smaller parties, but we want to encourage you to make that spur of the moment decision and walk into any Alice’s Tea Cup, any time. In limiting the number of reservations we accept, we find we actually make more room available for walk-in visitors.

In order to make a reservation with us, all we ask is that you let us delight you with a full English tea service. We believe that tea time is magic, your escape from hectic city life, an occasion to bask in the company of friends and loved ones. For your party of eight or more people, we’ll present to you an array of sweet treats, savory sandwiches and perfectly brewed pots of tea from around the world.

Known as the “Mad Hatter” for adults and the “Wee Tea” for children, food is presented on three-tiered stands with a variety of the day’s freshly baked scones served on top with preserves and clotted cream, an assortment of our tea sandwiches arranged on the middle tier, and small desserts on the bottom tier. Pots of tea are included as well. We modify the Wee Tea to include the more kid-friendly sandwiches listed on our “Menu for the Small.” The Mad Hatter costs $37 per person. The Wee Tea is $20 per child.

And while afternoon tea holds a special place in our hearts, we know breakfast is actually the most important meal of the day. For morning reservations you can choose to order the “Mad Morning Tea” featuring your favorite breakfast foods.

Private rooms are available at our Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 locations. We rent out these rooms by the hour with a two-hour minimum, and require a non-refundable room rental deposit to confirm the reservation.

Reservations for all locations are coordinated through our main office at 220 East 81st Street. All parties of 8 people and larger are served our afternoon tea service at $37 per adult and $20 per child, plus tax and gratuity. Depending on the number of people and the location, the party may be seated in a private room:

Chapter 1
Parties of 8 and 9 main dining room parties of 10 to 20 Raspberry Room at $100 / hour with a 2-hour minimum

Chapter 2
Parties of 8 to 14 main dining room
Parties of 15 to 25 Looking Glass Room at $100 / hour with a 2-hour minimum
Parties of 26 to 35 Looking Glass and Fairy Rooms at $150 / hour w a 2-hour min.
Parties of 36 to 50 Entire second floor at $500 / hour with a 3-hour minimum

Have a party of 5 people or less?
We accept reservations for small groups on weekdays only. Chapter 1 only takes reservations for parties of 6 or more at any time. Chapters 2 and 3 can accept reservations for parties of any size. Groups of 5 people or less are welcome to order à la carte with a $10 per person minimum.

Bridal Showers & Baby Showers, Birthday and Unbirthday Parties
The menu we offer is our Mad Hatter tea service at $37 per person and includes a variety of our scones, sandwiches, cookies, desserts and teas. Additional room charges apply depending on location. We add 20% gratuity for your server and there is tax on the food charges only. If you should desire a cake, they are $65 and up, depending on the size, intricacy of the design and the writing on the cake. Check out our Custom Cakes section for a few examples. Should you wish for us to take care of purchasing flowers or balloons for your event, please let us know and we will research the cost and place the order for you. We can also put together any gift bags for your party upon request. We can also make arrangements to offer a palm, tea-leaf or tarot reading for each member of your party. The price starts at $200.00 and varies depending on the number of guests at your party. All private parties require a 2 hour minimum. If gifts will be opened, please book for 3 hours.

Children's Birthday Parties
Our children’s parties are offered Mondays through Thursdays all day, and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays after 3pm. The charge is $20 per child for a Wee Tea service which includes a scone, assorted sandwiches from our menu for the small, chocolate mousse and chocolate milk or a tisane tea. For teens and adults, we offer the Mad Hatter tea service at $37 per person. In addition, we add on 20% gratuity and tax on the food only. Additional room charges apply depending upon location. We strongly recommend hiring a dedicated server for parties with 10 children or more, which costs an additional $125 per hour.

Upon request, we can arrange for a Mad Hatter, a magician, an Alice face-painter or an Alice who can read excerpts from the book to the children. These offers range from $125-$250 per hour depending on the service provided. Should you wish for us to take care of purchasing flowers or balloons for your event, please let us know and we will research the cost and place the order for you. We can also put together any gift bags for your party upon request. If you would like a birthday cake, we charge $65 and up depending on the size, intricacy of the design and the writing on the cake. All private parties require a 2 hour minimum. If gifts will be opened, please book for 3 hours.

Chapter I
102 West 73rd Street:
Our Raspberry Room can host between 10 and 20 people. If there are fewer than 13 people at your party, we can seat everyone at one long table. Use of the Raspberry Room costs $100 per hour. If your party is larger than 20 people, please consider our east side locations. We also recommend hiring a dedicated server for parties with 10 children or more, which would be an additional $100 per party.

We also rent out the entire restaurant for $1,000 per hour and can accommodate up to 50 people seated, 70 standing. (Parties of 8 or more must pre-order Mad Hatters as our kitchen is too small to accommodate a la carte orders for parties of more than 7 people.)

Chapter II
156 East 64th Street
Parties of 15 or more are booked in our Looking Glass Room, which can seat up to 25 people. There is a $100 per hour room charge for this private room. We can also combine the Looking Glass Room with our Fairy Room for parties of 26-35 for an additional $50 per hour room charge. Parties of over 35 and up to 60 can rent all of our second level for a $500 per hour charge, while parties of over 60 people can rent out the entire restaurant for a charge of $1000 per hour. (Parties of 12 or more must order Mad Hatters as our kitchen is too small to accommodate a la carte orders for parties of more than 11 people.)

Chapter III
220 East 81st Street
Parties of up to 10 people can be accommodated in our main dining room with no room charge; we simply charge for the cost of the party itself! Larger parties can rent out the entire location for $500 per hour plus the cost of the party. (Parties of 8 or more must pre-order Mad Hatters as our kitchen is too small to accommodate a la carte orders for parties of more than 7 people.)

Cancellation Policies:
Please cancel within 3 days of the party date to avoid being charged $30 per person. We also ask that all changes concerning number of people attending must be made 2 days in advance; if fewer people attend, the host will be charged for the original number of people specified at the time of the reservation.

Catering
Our Mad Hatter for catering orders includes assorted sandwiches, scones, and desserts. Made-to-order cakes can be ordered to specification for $65 and up depending on size, layers and intricacy. Please check out our Custom Cakes section to choose from our specialty cakes. Alternately, sandwiches can be ordered a la carte for $9 to $11 each. They are then cut into thirds (unless otherwise requested).

  • Lapsang souchong smoked chicken breast with granny smith apples and herbed goat cheese on multi-grain bread
  • Curry chicken salad with red onion, celery, and granny smith apple on raisin semolina bread
  • Roasted cumin carrots with olive tapenade and goat cheese on semolina
    Tea-infused egg salad with watercress and herbed mayonnaise on multi-grain bread
  • Ham and gruyere with whole grain mustard and homemade mayonnaise on raisin semolina bread
  • Cucumber and watercress with lemon chive butter on whole wheat
  • Albacore tuna salad with capers, cornichons, and shallots in a whole grain mustard vinaigrette on semolina with black sesame seeds
  • Hummus with lettuce and tomato on whole wheat bread (at Chapter I only)
  • Smoked salmon, open-faced, with lemon-dill butter on black bread
